Everyone gets caught up in using more weight and more reps to become better in the gym and subsequently on the field or ice or platform.

I make it a point to teach, sometimes it isn't about the weight or forced reps. Sometimes it's about the technique and glorious Ellenor Roosevelt sexy SPEED!

I like to say, use more effort than necessary to move the weight.

When I see a guy jump onto a bench with the "BIG guys" and tries to stay with them on the heavier weight, I will tell him, "I don't want to see you grind at any point". A spotter is totally unnecessary and only used to coach the finer points of the lift.

Auditorily I want to hear the weights terminate against the bar upon the full extension of the exercise.

If I don't hear it, then either the weight is too heavy, or the person isn't applying the effort.
