Today we went to what will be our regular gym in Calgary - The Strength Edge. It's filled with strongman equipment and competition powerlifting gear. A nice spot for sure. Seth used to be a regular there, but this was my second time in that gym so I felt a little lost. This was my first heavyish training session since our long road trip, and I expected to feel a little weak, but ended up feeling worse than I was expecting. I wanted to work up to a moderate 5 on deads, which should have been about 305-315. 275 moved fast, so I bumped it up to 315 and it felt like 375. I missed my fifth rep which is not ideal at all. Backed the weight down to 295 and managed some shakey sets of five before moving on to front squats. I definitely need to go back to the drawing board for the next few weeks of training and nutrition, because feeling the way I do right now is simply not acceptable for me. I don't want to feel sorry for myself, I don't want to feel stuck in a rut, and I definitely don't want to go into competition prep feeling this way. So this means working harder and smarter. Putting as much energy as I can into doing as many things right as possible.
