I was feeling really good training the other day. It's one of those sessions where everything is feeling light The deadlift volume called for 1-2 reps per set for a total of 4-10 reps with 410 lbs.

How I structure my volume: https://www.elitefts.com/coaching-logs/wendlers-take-on-prilepins-chart/

When I started the first pull if felt really good so I took it for the double. Then as I sat there between sets and I got this itch to take the next set for 8 reps to top off my volume at 10. That is, if my body was willing.

Sure enough, I pulled it for 8 very comfortably. So does this mean I should be upping my weights/volume? The answser, a resounding NO!

This just shows my programming is working great. I'm training hard, but there's enough meat left on the bone where I'm not wearing myself down.

With 5/3/1 there are always options you can jump on such as Joker Sets (additional singles after working sets, not maxing out), Widowmakers (set of 20), AMRAP (as many reps as possible), and I'm sure I'm missing some. My audible of 8 reps instead of 4x2 is in the same vein.

Don't be afraid to call audibles in your training. Just remember if you have a great result, it's becuase of your programming. Don't think you found some new magical way to train. The point, I don't think suddenly lumping all my volume into one set is going to make me stronger. To the contrary it will probably beat me into the ground.

Dance with the one who brung you.
