Over the years I have learned many training lessons from Jim Wendler. This is one I think everyone should learn.
“Make every rep 100% awesome and let the chips fall where they may.” This resonates with me so deeply and I’ll tell you why.
The older I get the less room I have for error. Every rep is like gold. Ironically a lot of lifters turn to fluff and puff bodybuilding work as they get older, but that wreaks havoc on my body.
I have arthritis in my shoulders and back making volume my enemy. I have found higher weight and less reps to be my saving grace.
However, if you are using higher weight and less reps, you need to make every rep count. As I’m doing each rep of a movement now, I’m asking myself, was that 100% awesome?
If a rep is not 100% awesome I’m either distracted or the weight has gotten too heavy. Each of which is not acceptable. Using that barometer has created some great training sessions these past few months.
Two of my three weight training days a week sometimes consist of only two compound exercises. With that, it’s more important than ever to make each rep 100% awesome.
