If you follow my log you will see I take several vacations per year. I have one with my wife that is a long weekend that is strategy based for the company, she is 50% owner and is a much bigger part of elitefts that people realize.

We take another one for a week for us to get away from everything
Another that is 5-6 days with the kids that we try to mix up where we go.
Finally, the last is two weeks at the beach. Out of all the vacations we take this is the one I enjoy the most. I consider this a working vacation because I do still work (70% less than when I am home), I train, and for the most part life is the same except I am in a different location. While Traci and I will discuss business it is not very often. By the time this one rolls around I need time and days to do nothing and let my head clear.
All the other vacations are too damn fast with too much travel and shit we try to do. I can't reset and many times feel like I need a vacation when they are over.
This one is never like that and I have had to contend with some major personal and business shit during these two week beach vacations over the past six years. Even with that serious shit I can still reset and recharge.
We have many things we need, want and have to do before the end of the year and there is no doubt I am more ready for these now. Many things I was dreading but am now looking forward to. I think this is one of the most important reasons to get away. We all get too wrapped up in the details and fail to take the time to step back and look at the big picture or take the time to be grateful for where we are and what we are doing. Really look and understand what we have and not want we don't. We all strive to survive, grow and become better but need to stop and take inventory of how lucky we all our. Yes, "WE" if you are breathing you are lucky and have something to be grateful for. You can spend you entire life is pursuit of happiness and never live the best life you currently have. For me this is hard to do when you feel like the ball in a pinball machine and I need to step back and reset from time to time.
Maybe this could be better managed is I worked a normal 9-5 job ( you know... the grass is always greener thing) but since I don't and and my life and work are pretty much one in the same I have to find works best for me and listed above is what has been working for me for the past 6 years.
Not the greatest post in the world but there is a take away. I used to be one of those guy who never went on vacation and if I had to I was working 6 hours a day. I am not saying I do not work but I will say its less than 2 hours a day average. But not doing so it allows me to do much better work with better focus when I do get back.
