Options for all budgets.
In the last installment of Old Man Conjugate I said I’d give you a list of what you need to Survive and Thrive 2022 and Beyond. Well, today is the day, I have a list of Home Gym Essentials for any budget.
If we look at what we need to maintain our fitness and stay strong(er) there are tons of options. And tons of different living arrangements that can limit our options. If you live in a small apartment, you’ve got to really think about what is a home gym essential. But if you live in your own house with some space in the basement, you can go a little bigger. And if you live in a big house with a huge garage, basement, you can go all out and get just about whatever you want.
Then, there is a budget to consider. Not all of us have $10,000 laying around to build a home gym.
So, with those considerations in mind, in this episode of Old Man Conjugate: Survive and Thrive 2022 and Beyond Part 2-Home Gym Essentials I’m giving you a few lists that will cover your needs and budget from basic fitness to training all out for whatever your discipline is at home. Think back to 2020 when we were locked down by the government and your gym was closed.
Did this affect your ability to train?
I know it didn’t affect mine because I own a gym and went there every day.
But, I know it affected many, and if you didn’t own a gym or have a home gym, it affected not just your physical health, but most likely your mental health too.
And, looking back at 2020, if you were lucky enough to get some gym goods online or on FB Marketplace, it was a lesson in price gouging. You had to overpay for everything.
Now is the time to get yourself enough training gear in case it happens again, and so you can get in some extra training at home. As a bonus, if you have kids, you can get them started young!
Without being anymore loquacious, here my list of Old Man Conjugate: Survive and Thrive 2022 and Beyond Part 2-Home Gym Essentials
I’ll start with the BASICS and each list after will be things you add on as space and budget allows.
THE BASICS
Possibly one of the most versatile and inexpensive things you can have.
Easy way to add resistance to walks, hikes, and body weight exercises. If you have a plate carrier, it can do double duty as a weight vest.
I won’t go into all that you can do with a few kettlebells, you already know.
But, if you don’t have the budget or room to stockpile them, get a Kettle Strap by Spud Inc.
For under $40 you can have a full set with some plates.
One of the BEST conditioning tools ever.
Kick your ass with hundreds of exercises for about $100
Again, hundreds exercises from beginner to advanced can be done with these.
Do I need to explain why you need a sled?
Next up on the list for space and budget is:
Beyond the BASICS
Made in USA barbell. Enough said.
Don’t be a dummy and not use Made in USA collars.
Do anything in complete safety.
Or, if you don’t have room for a full rack, grab the Squat Stands.
You don’t “need” a full set. This is an essential.
Moving on, we have the:
I’ve got some space and some cash list.
Duplicate tons of machine exercises with this economical solution.
Possibly the best and most versatile strap ever invented.
Brutal, simple and effective.
Not full commercial quality, but it’s tougher than you.
Moving along once again, it’s on to the Old Man Conjugate: Survive and Thrive 2022 and Beyond Part 2:
Home Gym Essentials I’ve got tons of room and a big budget list.
The single most important specialty bar ever. And you might as well get my book to go along with it.
We all need a strong(er) lower back in the apocalypse right?
Possibly the most important piece if you have the room after a Power Rack.
There you have my Old Man Conjugate: Survive and Thrive 2022 and Beyond Part 2: Home Gym Essentials list with options for all budgets. I could have gone on for a lot longer on the last list, but this is ESSENTIALS.
Now, start getting you gym set up and read Part 1 too.
Oh, and happy birthday to my girl Aoibheann.
She would have been 10 today.
We don’t deserve dogs.
