You often hear the term program hopping with training. It's never put in a positive light. Is it such a terrible thing? Let's see.
I have probably shared before that since I have stopped powerlifting competitively, my training can sometimes lack purpose. I have given myself some goals to chase, but it's different than the drive I actually got from competing on a high level.
With the lack of direction, I have been program hopping a bit. This has caused me to beat myself up. Then I got thinking, why? Have I not been training hard? Have I not been conditioning? The answer to both is a resounding NO!
As I dug deeper into this, I see myself as a freshman in college. My training is exploratory and I haven't declared a major yet. Most importantly my training hasn't been detrimental to my health.
During this time I have been able to play with different exercises, intensities, splits, etc. Maybe this has been necessary to craft the right program for myself based on my current circumstances.
I have always held that training never goes wasted. There's pretty much something you can always take away from it. So as long as you are training hard maybe you don't need to beat yourself over program hopping. Just use it as a learning experience.
