I spent the Bye weekend with Wendler. Lots of talk about training - for us and for athletes, and lots of football. As always, with football comes good eatin'.
I won't ramble on about what we talked about in this post, but the training talk helped a ton. This past summer was one of my best blocks of training I've had in a while. I felt great and had really productive workouts.
For a variety of reasons I (we) went away from this. Some good, some bad, but still, I went away from it. I think part of it is because there are things I WANT to do and some of those are different than what I CAN do because of mileage on the frame. Another part of it is the curiosity of experimentation. It's almost like, "I figured this out, let's try something different. I can always come back to it."
Here's what went down today:
- FBB Bench: 115x5/125x5/135x12 PR!/155x9 PR!/185x2 PR!
- KB Row/Pull-ups: 4x10/4x5
- KB Row: 70lbs x30
- Pull-ups: 10 reps
I finished up with Neck and Curls.
Very simple. Shoot for PR sets and move on. This really kept me focused today. I spent all of my warm-up sets thinking about getting 135x12 (11 was previous PR). Once I hit that I checked my 155 PR, which was 8. I haven't touched 185 in 2+ years. Technically, the 70lb KB for 30 each arm is a PR because I've never done it before. I'm not exactly sure on my Pull-ups, but I believe it's 14? Either way, next time I feel like hitting a PR in any of these I'll just shoot for 1 more rep. The row will probably go to an 85lb DB. Once I get 30 each arm I'll go to 100? We'll see.
Great lift, though. I feel really good after.
