I'm closing in on starting the youth program for next week. I've already determined how the first practice is going to unfold. Based on the cluster F that happened this past lacrosse season, I am going to lay down the rules to the PARENTS in the first two minutes.
"Happy that their son is INVITED to this summer's strength and conditioning program, but note...YOUR SON"
"For the next 8 weeks and two, ONE hour sessions, their son belongs to me. In the weight room and on the field, I am omnipotent. I will NOT require their presence. IF they are ever going to have an issue with my coaching style they will be refunded the unused portion of their son's commitment and asked to leave NEVER to return.
I do NOT need opinions, I don't give an F what they read, and if they say "Core" to me, I WILL laugh in their face.
Fences around fields, Glass around rinks, and walls and doors around weight rooms are there to keep parents OUT, as much as they are there to keep players IN.
I think the "Rules of Engagement" need to be explained up front and laid to rest before any 'rent lends me their ideas.
THIS should be interesting, to say the least.
This past weekend all the local hockey clubs held their tryouts. My son will be returning to the Santa Clara Blackhawks with a few new additions to his team. Seems a couple kids from his NorCal Elite Blazer team needed to find new homes and they landed in Santa Clara.
I understand that San Jose has some glamour. They have the Sharks playing there, they have similar jerseys and the kids WILL win Championships because of the magnitude of people trying out.
I rather think the DEVELOPMENT of the player is more important.
We'll win our fair share of games because of that developing of the player both as a Hockey player AND because of the CHARACTER of the little human being.
We go where the COACH is...Not the glamour.
We have a couple really (and I mean REALLY) good guys that KNOW how to develop hockey players AND kids.
So stoked for the next season.
