The age-old question, "Should you train when you are sick?" Some say yes, others say no. Here's my take.
As I type this I have a brutally sore throat. However, it didn't start like this. Thursday it started as a mild cold. So, I downed some medicine and figured I could do my conditioning. All I did was ride my bike about 6 miles roundtrip to the local trail, which I rucked and even sprinted the uphill sections.
In retrospect, it was a bit much. The problem is I never default to easy. I love the intensity of training, so if it can't be intense, why bother?
As a result of Thursday's session, I can give my conclusive answer on whether or not to train when sick, ABSOLUTELY F'ING NOT! UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, NEVER, EVER!!!!!!!
I say this because I cannot remember a single time when I was glad I trained sick. It has always kicked my ass. I am dumb and have fought this uphill battle for too long.
Mind you, this is different than not feeling it one day, being tired, unmotivated, etc. I don't take those days off. I have had some killer sessions coming from those days. It's being unmistakably sick or starting to get sick that I'm talking about.
Avoid denial!
