Today I am sharing something I wrote in my monthly gym newsletter to offset the typical crap you see at this time of year from gurus. Today give you my take on Terrible New Year Advice 2023 Edition.
At the end of the year we are bombarded with all sorts of advice for the New Year, and most of it is well intentioned. But it is also negative.
How is it negative Murph?
Well, we always hear about New Year, New You right? That seems to imply that the old you sucked.
While this may be the case for some, for the majority of us it is not. However, we all can improve. And, the best way to improve is by taking consistent action on things that will make us the best version of ourselves that we can be.
Terrible New Year Advice 2023 Edition: Good advice is below.
This is a copy/paste job from my January TPS newsletter intro. I decided to share it with my readers here as well.
It has some great (at least I think so) suggestions for being the best version of yourself that you can be.
“I’d like to start off by wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
May 2023 be your best year yet.
With that said, as usual this time of year, I am not writing any of that New Year, New You bullshit. Instead, I’d rather see all of us be the best version of ourselves that we can be.
How can we do this?
It’s simple, not easy. I’ll make a list of things for you to consider in order to be the best version of yourself that you can be.
- Sleep at least 8 hours per night
- Sleep on a regular schedule
- Hydrate well
- Expose yourself to sunlight every day, the more the better
- Eat well
- Start to eliminate processed and packaged foods
- Get 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight daily
- Exercise on a regular basis
- Strength train, hard
- Read. A real book.
- Shoot for 10 pages a day.
- Challenge yourself mentally and physically
- Save money, stop wasting it
- Set small and attainable goals and a longer term goal
- Reward yourself when you achieve them
- Prioritize your goals
- Eliminate toxic people and toxic activities
- Be kind
- Donate or volunteer to/at a charity
- Be present with those around you
- Cut back on screen time and social media
I know there are many more things that we can do to be the best version of ourselves, but this list gives you things to really think about and none of it is complicated.
Set your mind to being the best version of yourself and then attack it in small chunks. Remember the old saying:
How do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time.
It’s an old and corny expression, but it rings true. Do it slowly and consistently. You’ll see huge improvements in a short time with consistency.
In an effort to make this task a little easier, I urge you to read the article below from TPSMethod.com on goals.
And then put the suggestions to use.
Knowledge without action is useless.
Be useful to yourself.”
That is not a list of Terrible New Year Advice!
Put the list to work, and read the linked article.
