I wrote an article similar to this a few years ago about a friend who passed away on my blog.
This one is similar in its message, but different.
The first one was more of a way for me to deal with grief and send a positive message out.
Today I am writing as way of passing on some wisdom, if I can be so bold as to say I have any.
The People In Your Life matter.
- They shape your day.
- They shape your attitude.
- They contribute or detract from your success.
- They motivate you.
- They bring you down.
- They support you.
- They work against you.
I can go on all day with stuff like this, but I hope you get it.
We read things all the time about surrounding yourself with good people, but how many of us do it?
How many of us are willing to end relationships with negative people?
How many of us can even identify them?
What about the excellent people you have around you?
Do you let them know what they mean to you?
You should.
I am writing today because I had a scare this week and one of the most important people to me had a serious health issue come up unexpectedly.
This person is one of the most positive, supportive and solid people I have ever met.
It is one of the people who put up with me at my worst and stuck around.
They have also never asked for a thing in return.
I said that I am very fortunate in that I have surrounded myself personally and professionally with only positive people finally.
I am fortunate enough to have rid myself of all of the toxic relationships in my life.
We all have them.
The bulk of mine were in a professional capacity as of late.
I had a few that were really bad and it affected my attitude and my business as well as all of my employees.
Since they have been cleaned up, almost every other aspect of my life was better.
TPS is much better too.
When this health scare came up I was a mess because if something serious was wrong and I lost this person, I don’t know how I’d cope with it.
He is one of the people that consistently puts smile on my miserable face.
That’s a big deal to me.
The thought of this person not being around was not something I was willing to deal with.
Why?
Well, first off, they are one of the best people I’ve ever met, one of the best people in my life, and the lives of many others.
Second, I know that I have told them how important they are to me, but not enough.
Guys don’t do that shit.
As the day passed with no word or update I got a little worried.
As it got into the evening and I was at home, sleep escaped me.
My mind was running all over the place and wouldn’t stop.
When things like this happen, you try not to go to the worst-case scenario, but it is hard not to after many hours go by and you have nothing.
The next day, he contacted me and I went to see him.
I dropped everything on my calendar and went as fast as I could.
He doesn’t ask for help, so…….
There wasn’t much I could do to help other than be there and talk.
So we did.
In the same spirit as the article I wrote years ago, I told him how important he was to me and that I would do whatever it took to help, anytime.
Day or night.
This is the message of the article.
Don’t wait until it might be too late.
If you have great people in your life, let them know.
Tell them what they mean to you. Tell them how important they are.
Kind words go a long way.
A lack of them also goes a long way, just not the way you want.
Don’t take people for granted.
These are lessons I learned recently. I wish it didn’t take me 50 years to figure that shit out.
If you’ve got negative people in your life, get rid of them.
It may seem hard to do, and it will be.
But, when it is over you’ll see it was the right thing to so.
In the end, the health scare was just that.
A scare.
Everything is going to be ok.
What makes it more ok for me, is that I told this person what I would have possibly not told them if it didn’t happen.
I thought I learned that lesson a few years ago, but as I said many times, I am not that bright.
