I feel like I have been program-hopping for a while. However, I have been following a new training program I have developed for the better part of this year. Much of it is based on Wendler's take on Prilepin's chart. I wanted to introduce it before I outline my program in the coming weeks.
Jim does not try to pass this off as his own. He openly states it's based on Prilepin. We should all agree there are very few new concepts in training. Most everything has been done. Now it's just how someone repackages it.
The main difference between Jim's numbers and Prilepin's is that Wendler's are based on your Training Max versus one's True Max. Wendler's Training Max (TM) is 90% of your true max.
Many of us probably agree that when we look in our hearts, we err on the side of programming too heavily. That's the brilliance of Jim's TM, it considers our egos.
It's much easier to keep your form on point and make every rep awesome when you are not pushing yourself to the brink on every set. Get good at lighter weights and keep progressing.
Jim also shared a caveat that you can add + or - 5% based on how you feel that day. That leaves you with two different loading parameters. You have a minimum and maximum threshold of sets and reps and some wiggle room for your weights.
Now that I have shared the foundation for my numbers, I can outline my full program better in my next blog. Stay tuned.
