This hit is from his last game of the year. He sat on the bench all season, and when he gets his shot, he makes it count.
I can complain about the coach all day, but what matters is when he did get to play (at best 5 innings all season as JV). He seized each opportunity, never complained and paid his dues. Even after being told countless times, “Be ready. You will be playing next game,” and that not happening. He still stood in the dugout and cheered his team.
Every time he got a shot, with the exception of one strike out, he made it count. Watching the rest of his team strike out over and over had to be frustrating, but he kept his mouth shut and waited.
He will work harder, get bigger, faster and better, so next time around, his conditioning and skills will be undeniable.
This season is over, and he knows that spots are sometimes given and not earned, life is not always fair and to deal with it professionally with a smile on his face and let it all sink in.
It’s times like this that separate those who will become leaders, captains, go that extra mile, take the extra step and push more than is required to create a standard that’s a gap higher than the rest.
This is my kid...I’m proud of the character he showed this season. This means more than any stat or batting average.
It’s these moments that makes one become a champ or a chump.
I know what he’ll become and will do all I can to help guide his way.
