You Make The Decision Right

While I was listening to the radio the other day on the way to the gym, the same day that Peyton Manning was signed by the Denver Broncos, Manning said something that was profound. He said that when people were asking him if he thought he made the right decision or if he thought in 10 years he would look back and think that he had made the right decision, he said, “I’ve always been of the belief that any situation or decision can be right. It’s up to me to make it right.”

One of the underlying characteristics that I notice about successful lifters and bodybuilders that I'm around is that they never let their gym, genetics, schedule or anything for that matter, get in their way. They go out and make their situations what they want them to be. I also find that these types of ‘gym creatures’ are successful in multiple areas of their life. If they decide to step away from a ‘secure’ job to pursue their own endeavor, they make it work.

The Other End

You also have the opposite end of the spectrum of people that ‘want to be in shape’ but ‘don’t have the time’ and its ‘too hard to eat right’ because they have a full-time job. Whenever I hear these excuses from people, I can tell you what the rest of their life probably looks like too...shitty. If you want something, you go after it and you keep going until you get it. One of the least spoken about secrets of highly successful people, be it in business, athletics or the iron game is a very short turn around time from the point at which the idea enters their mind to the time it takes to implement the idea.

If you aren’t sure if something will work in the gym, you're much better off trying it and seeing what happens, rather than mulling the idea around in your head for months and months before coming to a decision. As I always tell my clients and athletes, "We learn more about life and ourselves in the gym than we do in any classroom or university. Make the decision work, make the decision right."
