How many times in your life have you heard the phrase, “Get some balls”?

Having balls is a necessity in order to get shit done, both in the weight room and in life. Nobody ever achieved anything worthwhile without sacking up and making the difficult decisions. There are times, though, when you just don’t feel like strapping on a pair—where fear gets the better of you, and you want to wimp out of the hard choices. Well, if you really can't muster the cojones in these situations, don’t fear. There is a solution. Give this recipe a try and remember to thank me when you’re busting through plateaus and making progress in life.

Testicles Al Forno

OK, I’ll admit it...vacuum-packed balls don’t look that appetizing, but don’t let that put you off. Testicles are high in protein and low in fat, and sheep’s balls in particular are full of minerals such zinc and potassium, so they can aid recovery as well. It gets better still—they have also been shown to increase testosterone. So what we're dealing with here is as true of a superfood as anything else with the same tag! But apparently you have to eat them raw to get the testosterone boost...Hmmm...I don’t know about you, but when I look at them, I feel the need to cook them well. I don’t imagine the texture of rare testicles is all that pleasant!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • Balls, 3 pairs
  • Half a cup of diced carrots
  • Half a cup of diced onion
  • Half a cup of diced celery
  • Cup of chopped tomatoes
  • 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped or crushed
  • 2 tsp dried rosemary
  • A little grated cheese

Method

  1. Grab your balls and throw them in a hot pan, browning them on all sides.
  2. Once your balls have browned, throw in the rest of the ingredients except for the tomatoes and cook until the onions have softened.
  3. Add the tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes or so.
  4. Transfer to a baking dish and top with cheese before baking at 350°F (or 160°C) for 45 minutes.
