MC Rehab Strongman 2012
MC Rehab’s Strongman for 2012 was a huge success! Nine of our athletes and clients participated in four events to test their strength and endurance capabilities in front of a large crowd of people. The participants ranged from 15-year-old hockey players to career driven firefighters. The one thing they all had in common—they were strong.
Tire Flip
The first of four events was the tire flip. There was a 300-lb tire and a 630-lb tire. The objective was to either flip the smaller tire ten times for time or the large tire seven times for time. Our female hockey player, Jordan Kosinsky, had an impressive time of 31.65 seconds for ten flips at 14 years of age. A speed skater athlete posted a time of 22.74 seconds on the small tire at 13 years old. Big “D,” our strongest competitor, had an impressive 21.34 seconds on the big tire.
Ball Toss
The next event was the heavy ball toss. We used heavy medicine balls instead of kegs for safety reasons. The balls progressively got heavier up to the fourth and final ball. They were thrown over a bar height of 10.5 feet. For the women, Brittany had the fastest time of 6.68 seconds, and for the men, Joe posted 6.90 seconds. Bear in mind, the men used heavier balls than the women.
Farmer's Walks
In the third event, farmer’s walks, we used elitefts™ standard trap bars with a total of 60-lb handles for the women and 90-lb handles for the men. The course was 75 feet in length, and the objective was to do as many laps before dropping the handles. Both women scored an impressive 450 feet, and the winner was one of the two firefighters with an astonishing 750 feet. We all thought that he was going to just go forever, but his forearms had finally had enough. Big “D” was a notable mention with 700 feet.
Using the elitefts™ Prowler® for our final event, the heavy Prowler® push, was by far the most exciting for the fans and participants. The course was 42 feet on rubber flooring with the Teflon skis with the objective to push the weight from point A to point B. Both women again posted respectable numbers of 450 lbs while Jordan had previously accomplished 600 lbs but was unable to complete the event due to shoe traction at competition time. The young speed skater matched the other hockey player with 540 lbs. The smaller firefighter and I hit 820 lbs. We both weigh under 180 lbs. The other firefighter posted a 1000-lb Prowler® push! Big “D” took the win with a record shattering 1200-lb Prowler® push!
All the participants worked tremendously hard leading up to the competition, training eight weeks prior to ready themselves. I should also mention that we raised over $500 for our local Child Development Center in Fort St. John, British Columbia! Thank you to elitefts™ for providing some of the best training equipment on the planet. We all look forward to next year’s Strongman when we'll be bigger than ever!
