We are excited to officially announce athlete Lily Starobin as the latest addition to the elitefts team! She is a pro 148 multi-ply powerlifter who has been competing since 2012 and training at the elitefts compound in Columbus, Ohio since 2015.

Starobin has come a long way in her powerlifting career over the past several years. Despite starting out totaling 475 at her first ever competition, once she began training at elitefts, she achieved her elite and pro totals within her first three meets. In fact, in her first and most recent multi-ply meet, she posted a 425 squat, 265 bench, and 420 deadlift. She attributes her success and growth in large part to asking questions and persevering – she just kept showing up. Furthermore, she had the guidance and support of Dave Tate, who developed her training programming and critiqued her lifting. What’s more, he also took the time to answer all of her “incessant questions”, as Starobin calls them. It’s this genuine willingness to pass on knowledge to others that has ultimately kept Starobin in Ohio these past few years – the elitefts community is tough to beat.

So, if anyone thinks [that] ‘Live, Learn, Pass On’ is just a catchy company motto, I cannot think of anything that Dave embodies more. I consider myself immensely lucky that I get to train at one of the best gyms with some of the best people.

To that point, Starobin encourages powerlifters to lean on and learn from one another. She makes a point not only to understand her training programming, but also the “why” behind it. She’s not afraid to ask others for their rationale behind certain decisions; ultimately, that’s what helps her to learn and modify her own training based on her body’s needs. Plus, it’s often a pleasant surprise to discover how much other people are willing to help.

I have always been floored by the amount of help I have received in powerlifting… It means a great deal to me to be able to represent the company and people that have done so much for me and I hope I can do even 1/100th of that for other lifters.

For Starobin, this log marks an opportunity for her own version of “passing on.” As an elitefts athlete, she will use her log to give lifters insight into S5 training, programming, and how to make decisions and modifications based on individual factors.
