September 5 we’re giving you a chance to learn from the experts again — this time with kettlebells.
Powerlifters are very sensitive about teaching the squat, bench, and deadlift. If they see a typical gym lifter teach one of the big three lifts, they immediately become frustrated. Why? Because those lifts require expertise. You can’t simply squat, bench, and deadlift for a few months and then consider yourself capable of teaching the movement. This would be like a college freshman teaching a course on economics after flipping through the table of contents in a business textbook.
Why then are we okay with letting a powerlifter teach kettlebell movements? If they’ve never competed at the highest level of Kettlebell Sport, how have they earned the right to teach? If you have to be an elite powerlifter to teach the competition lifts the correct way (we believe you do), then don’t you have to be a kettlebell master to teach kettlebell sports?
That’s what this workshop is about. Ken and Sheri Whetham are both experienced, top-level Kettlebell Sport competitors who have transferred to powerlifting and quickly reached the world-class level. They both won gold at the 2014 WPC Worlds, reaching the top powerlifting after a decorated Kettlebell Sport history, including championships at the World Long Cycle Championships in New York City and WKC World Championships in Chicago. They have put in the time to learn all of the nuances and miniscule details of kettlebell training rather than simply swinging a kettlebell around for a few sets after squatting and labeling themselves masters.
In other words, you’re going to be learning from experts about a technique that can carry over to all kinds of training programs. It can do a lot to:
- Strengthen posterior chain, tendons, ligaments and the shoulder girdle
- Build leg and hip explosiveness
- Improve mobility and flexibility
- Increase work capacity, conditioning and endurance
- Carry over into ANY sport
- Teach proper technique in other sports, such as Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting
These are all benefits that Ken and Sheri have found to work for themselves to reach the top of both Kettlebell Sport and powerlifting. They have reached an understanding of kettlebell training that allows them to use their kettlebell experience for a variety of disciplines.
In particular for powerlifting, Ken and Sheri have narrowed down the most important kettlebell movements for the squat and deadlift: the double kettlebell swing, the kettlebell swing squat, and the long cycle clean and jerk. They will teach you the proper way to perform each of these movements for the greatest carryover to the lifts that matter to you.
If nothing else, this seminar will give you the knowledge to use one of the most adaptable training tools for any fitness program. Weight management, strength training, conditioning, athletic performance — kettlebells will help any goal. And Ken and Sheri will teach you how to use them.
There is a tentative schedule for the event, which you can view on our website. But regardless of what the schedule says, Ken and Sheri are going to cover what you want to know. They will listen to your questions and give you, the attendees, the ability to mold the day around your interests and needs.
