Linear and Multidirectional Deceleration Training to Optimize an Athlete's Health
by Loren Landow, CSCS,*D
Noncontact injuries tend to happen in the eccentric phase of movement. A key philosophy is to “provide doses of venom to be able to be tolerant to a snake bite.” Deceleration training is the venom in movement sessions used to create resilience for the athlete to avoid common lower extremity injuries in sport. Deceleration is typically the most neglected quality in agility and speed sessions. This session will provide attendees with progressions of drills and coaching points that will help provide the athlete the ability to put on the “brakes” to best manage noncontact injury patterns
Loren Landow is highly sought after for his ability to analyze and correct biomechanics. His goal is to maximize human performance, while decreasing the likelihood of injury. Landow has trained thousands of athletes of all ages and abilities, including over 500 professional athletes in the National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL), Major League Baseball (MLB), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and Olympic athletes. Landow served as the Strength and Speed Coach during the NFL lockout. These training sessions included over 30 players from the Denver Broncos, as well as, 45 players from other NFL teams. Landow has worked with over 30 NFL All-Pros and over 20 first-round draft selections in the NFL. Landow’s passion is assisting athletes to perform at their peak level on the competition field. He has presented on the national and international level in the performance field, and serves as a consultant for professional and collegiate teams across the country. Landow has developed the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Prevention Program and ACL Return to Sport Protocols for the world renowned Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver, CO. His recent accomplishments include the publication of “My Offseason with the Denver Broncos: Building a Championship Team (While Nobody’s Watching).”
