The "Dad Bod" has been trending now for awhile, and Alan Mozes of HealthDay U.S. News wrote an article: The Dreaded 'Dad Bod' is Real, that explains why.

It is quite natural for people to put on weight when they experience an added stress to their lives.  Any major life milestone adds a lot of stress to a person's life; a man becoming a father is no exception to that.

A study took place analyzing 10,000 American men from the age of adolescents on through to their early thirties.  The study concluded that on average, males gained roughly 3.5 to 4.5 pounds after their first child has been born.  This is due to the now extremely limited time you have to exercise yourself.  The following are a few suggestions to help avoid adding to the ever growing "dad bod" population.

  • Make time to exercise and bring your child with you
  • Eat smaller portions
  • Don't eat what is considered "kid's food" (i.e. chicken nuggets)
  • Overall try to reduce your stress (isn't that always the goal?)
