On Saturday November 4th Ken and I were honoured to be able to participate in this huge event at "Driven Huronia Crossfit" in Midland Ontario. We headed North and despite the fact I woke up sick, the day could not have gone better. I knew our luck would change once we passed Whetham Road!
We were invited by Joanne and Alex Jeffrey the owners of Driven Huronia Crossfit and Retreat Yoga & Wellness to host one of our famous Kettlebell Workshops. We loaded up our truck with 38 of our special sport/pro kettlebells and put our minds to what types of things would best suit these athlete's and trainers.
The day was filled with events such as an Olympic lifting competition, followed by our Kettlebell Workshop, including a pot-luck lunch and finishing the day with a Powerlifting Competition.
This group of athlete's and trainers was by far the biggest group of people we have ever taught in one workshop. Over 40 fitness enthusiasts brought their game face and were eager to learn.
So what do you get in three hours, over 40 people and over 70 kettlebells? You get the best Kettlebell technique instruction available. We take you from the basic swing to the advanced snatch and break down the movements for you. We help you lift smarter, safer and more efficiently. We teach you Metabolic conditioning, rehab/active recovery, warmup and finishers to current programs and some fun little circuits for strength protocols.
SWINGS
ONE HANDED SWINGS
ALTERNATING SWINGS
SWING SQUATS (Best metabolic conditioning for your buck)
DROP SQUATS (Great for working calves and explosiveness and put together with swing squats as a finisher will take your heart rate to the next level.
HIGHPULL (Great for shoulder mobility/rehab/upper back & trap training & grip strength)
FIGURE 8 HOLDS WITH SQUAT (Unique moves that require some co-ordination that work full body are great for warm ups and finishers)
CLEANS (Hard to master this move but so important in order to ensure overhead presses and jerks are performed properly and safely)
PRESS (Strict press focusing on proper technique and lockout)
CLEAN & PRESS/PUSH PRESS/ JERK
SNATCHES (Article Dissecting the Kettlebell Snatch)
COMPOUNDS (A fun full body circuit with endless amounts of variations)
5 swings/ 5 highpulls/ 5 cleans/ 5 presses/ 5 squats
CHAINS (One move after the other repeated into a series of movements for a full body pump)
Swing/highpull/clean/press/squat then repeat x 3 or 4 rounds, switch arms and repeat
All in all I think everyone had a great time, learned a ton and will definitely utilize these tools more in their ever expanding variety of teaching tools. There was alot of things we simply did not have time to cover such as double kettlebells, strength protocols and the list goes on. Three hours may seem like a long time but with Kettlebells the options are endless.
This really was a great group of athlete's and trainers to work with. Everyone was willing to learn. This was a great day living, learning and passing on. The good news is we were invited back in a few months to do it again. We will teach a refresher and add some more advanced moves.
A huge thank you to Joanne and Alex for organizing and inviting us to their amazing facility and to all the athletes and trainers who came out and made this day enjoyable for Ken and myself. We are passionate about Kettlebells and will continue to always share our passion because "Passion Trumps Everything"!
Here is another great video of the "Competitive Breakdown" of kettlebell sport!
