I haven't done an actual barbell bench press or any type of bench press as a primary exercise in over 3 months and the last time I did it, I did a low incline axle bench press. So today was mostly about dusting off my technique and testing out how my shoulder felt with a horizontal versus a vertical press.

There were some good and not so good points to my training today. Good was my leg drive and both shoulders felt great. Less good was I fatigued faster than I expected as evidenced by my last set only being 3 reps and I didn't feel explosive off of my chest at all. The lack of pop could have been due to the deep, sharply angled J hooks on the racks at work which forced me to press the bar out to unrack it instead of pulling it out. My hips were also sore the day after this, which may be a first for me on bench.

I had my feet up on an 18" box for the pushups and I was one or 2 reps away from totally failing and eating a face full of rubber on my last set.

I didn't get to do everything I had planned today because my work schedule changed on me at the last minute, but this was still a decent training day and after 2 more weeks I will finally be the master of my own schedule once again for the first time in 3 years.
