I recently lifted in the 2019 USPA National Championships where I totaled 1769 in wraps at 198 via a 655 squat, 451 bench and 661 deadlift. I'll be lifting at an APF meet in Chicago this December to wrap up the year.
On deck for the night was the heaviest squat of my training cycle. I got my hands on a brand new pair of Krait knee wraps to try out too, decided to give them a go. The verdict: I like them, but they are not meant for a beginner. Stiffest wraps I have ever used and way more wrap than I had previously. I have one more session to get depth figured out in them, but overall I think these are a winner for me.
1. Squat - Opener of 625, big jump to an aggressive 2nd attempt of 700 and finished with a reverse band 725.
625 was harder to get down than it was to come up. It felt pretty effortless. 700 was a tough squat but not horrible. The 725 overload represents what I think I am capable of on a great day.
I'm used to taking a big 1-2 jump. I tend to open conservatively and then make a leap. 75 pounds is a little much in this case though, so I will bump the opener 10-15 pounds for my last training session and assess from there. I'd love to be in a spot to take 700 on a second.
The wraps are A LOT. I got used to them and adjusted the wrap style a little bit by the last squat in them. I think they broke in a little too. The Kraits are pretty extreme compared to what I had before. Admittedly, my depth needs some work in these. That will be the focus of my last session in two weeks. Worst case scenario I can always revert back to my old ones.
2. Deadlift - I was done and wanted to just go to bed... Pulled around 315 for some doubles.
3. Pause Squats - 365 for triples
4. TKEs- Orange light band for a bunch of reps per leg. By this point we were all just BSing and finishing up so I did them mindlessly while blowing off some steam.
5. Planks - 4 x 30 seconds
