Where to begin I'm 36 years old, so I will spare you the list of nagging issues, but the one obstacle that I ran across this prep that I haven't had to deal with was catching the flu.
The bodies way of saying fuck you, fever, fatigue loss of appetite and so on and so forth. I'd be a liar if I didn't say there weren't many times that scrapping the meet crossed my mind, but I'm as stubborn as I am ugly so I said fuck it peeled myself off the couch and went to train.
First up was bench, surprisingly everything felt pretty good overall. We had some issues with keeping the upper back tight on handoffs but dialed it in ended the day with a 580*. That asterisk is because my wonderful son and training partner decided to help me lock it out, after mother fucking him for ten minutes we decided that would be my number.
Squat? Well, that was a different story. Previously I hit a nice easy 860 (shown in the video), so we (Swede and I) decided I'd work to around 900. Yea that didn't work out too well 815 moved like butter, so I took the jump to 865 and as I unracked it I shook like a woman's sex toy and damned near went out, the flu was kicking my ass. For the first time in my life, I'm thinking fuck squats
On to the dead, feeling half way decent and pretty drugged up things moved rather well. I got to 675 BAM smoke; shit moved easier than usual. Jumped to 725, and I swear that shit moved faster than 675 did. Well after watching the video a couple of times I noticed that the reason it moved so well was that in fact, it was 675 again. So I take 725 for real this time it moved well, and I decided to make the jump to 775. Just like the squat I started shaking and I hardly ever shake on pulls, but it moved fast and locked out fine. Grip was terrible dropped it from the top such is life
I survived a shitty week of training and didn't injure myself sometimes that's all you can chalk in the win column. #elitefts #5thset
