Block 10, Wave 2 - Events @ Iron Strong CF

After procuring a couple of logs to be potentially used as cabers, I was looking forward to being able to train this highland games event at home base.  Murphy kicked in with his law though, and laughed in my face while he kicked me in the nuts.  There is a smaller and a larger log, but even the smaller one was completely unmanageable for all 5 of us who tried to turn it on Saturday.  Despite trying to avoid it, I may have to end up making a practice caber from 2x6s.  After wasting a solid 45 minutes running around the field and failing, training took a turn for the better, but it would have been hard pressed not to.

Caber Toss

so many failures

Suited 13" Axle DL

10x225

5x315

3x405

3x405 - Added Metal Jack DL suit

3x495

1x545 - Added belt

1x605

1x655

All sets felt pretty good, but I wasn't feeling super comfortable in my suit today so I just stuck with singles.  I could tell things were off a little bit because even getting set up for a partial height pull was causing me to grunt and grumble like a hog being slaughtered for makin' bacon.  There is not a great chance of me being able to go to USS nationals this year since it is right before my summer semester final exams, but I will probably try to train the events a little bit just in case it turns out I can go.

Atlas Stone C&P Medley

1x65, 1x135

1x65, 1x135, 1x175

2x{2x65, 2x135, 0x175}

I haven't done any atlas stone cleaning and pressing as actual training ever because the high weight distribution relative to my hands makes it more dangerous to myself and my surroundings than using sandbags.  I had a couple of close calls trying to get the 175 at the end of a longer series, but this will help me train for the odd stone press medley I have in my next comp at the end of April.

 Conditioning: Tire Flip/Sled Push Medley

5 runs of 8 flips x ~450/50' x sled + 115 - Ran through this by myself with just enough rest between rounds to be able to make it through the next round without stopping.  8 reps on the tire was what corresponded to 50' worth of flipping.
