On Saturday June 27th Team Outlaws competed at the Niagara Falls Kettlebell Sport Open.
We don't train to win, we train to be better than we were yesterday and set personal goals. For some just stepping on the platform is a goal in itself. A P.R., a personal challenge, whatever the reason we compete is different for everyone.
Kettlebell sport is by far one of the hardest endurance sports I have ever done.
My Team,
Bethany Lewis
Bethany has been training with me for about 2 1/2 years. Her dedication to her technique has improved her strength tremendously. Bethany competed with the 24 kg bell in a 10 min set at a body weight of 134 Lbs. Bethany performed 64 reps of Clean and Jerk achieving her Candidate for Master of Sport. What an amazing accomplishment for Bethany and I am so proud of her, as a coach to watch someone grow so much is an amazing feeling. After competing in her last event with the 20 Kg Bell she said she was no longer training with the 20 Kg bell and she meant it. Lifting a 24 Kg bell for 10 mins with a one hand switch is incredible.
Bethany also did a 5 min double clean and jerk set with the 12 Kg bell. Receiving a gold medal Bethany may be hooked on doubles.
Shannon Lewis
Shannon Lewis has been training with me for 2 1/2 years as well, she started at the gym with her sister Bethany doing my kettlebell fitness classes and so got hooked on the sport aspect. Shannon has grown so strong for such a tiny girl. Shannon weighs 115 lbs and competed in the 16 kg Long Cycle event. Although Shannon did not achieve her goal this time, she still took home the gold and is a winner in my eyes. Sometimes things happen in competition that we cannot predict may happen, we train for these things but cannot control the outcome. Shannon will get this goal, she is not a quitter and lb for lb body weight, she is one strong young lady.
Shannon also competed in a 5 min event of Double Clean and Jerk with two 12 Kg bells and if you have never tried it, you should, it's hard as hell. Shannon brought home the gold in both her events, something to be proud of !
Victoria Denny-Lailey
Victoria is an inspiration. I have been coaching Vicky for about 2 years now, she has lost close to one hundred lbs and has gone from never seeing the inside of a gym and starting with a 5 lb kettlebell to lifting large.
Victoria competed with a 12 kg Kettlebell in the Snatch 5 min set achieving her rank 2, gold medal with 99 reps. This is way more reps than she achieved in training so definately a huge P.R. and something to be very proud of.
Vicky also competed in the 10 Min Snatch set with an 8 Kg bell something she has done before in competition but none the less she cranked out 223 reps, obtaining a gold medal and another 10 min set in the books. Vicki's goal for the fall Agatsu meet will be a 10 Min set with the 12 Kg Bell. I love watching Vicki grow with this sport as it is something completely out of her comfort zone. If you ever thought you could never do it then you need to talk to Vicki, she is my inspiration.
Shawwna Djorsev-Browne
Shawnna has also been training with me for just over 2 years and coming back from an injury since last October she really has only trained for this competition for a little over a month. Shawnna usually competes in Long Cycle but this time decided to try her hand at the Snatch and she went big. She completed a 5 min set with the 16 kg bell getting in 64 Snatches, way better than her training so a huge P.R. also bringing home the Gold Medal. ! Shawnna was happy with her set and achieved a P.R.
Shawnna also competed in the 5 min Long Cycle event with Double 8 kg Bells with 51 reps ! Amazing dedication Shawnna I'm very proud of you ! Bringing home a Gold and Bronze medal for Team Outlaws is amazing.
What an amazing accomplishment for Team Outlaws, we train as a team but compete individually and each one of these ladies are special in their own way, I am proud to call them my part of my Team and my friends.
We will take July to get stronger and in August start specific sport training for the next Agatsu Competition in October. There is should have about 8 competitors or more for the next competition.
