Pain is real, pain sucks and injuries suck. Sometimes you want to skip the necessary parts of recovery and go right to grind, like bench, squat and deadlift, or swing a kettlebell, or like when you eat, skip the veggies and go right for the meat and potatoes. Or like sex, skip the foreplay and get right to the grinding.
Unfortunately, Physiotherapy although painful and time consuming is an absolute must to recovering after a surgery, especially a shoulder surgery, not something I want to mess with or skip.
Fighting through the aches and pains to get the work done is all I am doing, but I think it's working. My range of motion is coming along nicely, I can almost get my arm straight up and down already just after 5 1/2 long weeks post surgery.
Ken rigged me up a pully system in the basement so I could do my physio exactly like at the hospital, pretty handy guy to have around! I am being sure to warm up my shoulder prior to physio then icing it after. My external rotation needs more work but that will come in time. Getting my mobility back is number one priority for the first 3 months, excited to get back to lifting though and I hope I won't be too scared when the time comes and I can fully trust the recovery process.
I still get down, depression is part of this type of recovery I'm sure but I'm trying my best to be positive even though sometimes it's hard. Lots of distractions this time of year to keep my mind of things like Grandbabies, Christmas, My Kettlebell Team, and watching Ken prep for his next meet in January.
I see my surgeon on Wed, hopefully I get a good report from him, I think he will be pleasantly surprised and hopefully book me off work for one more month.
Well, until Wed then when I report back from my surgeon and my next physio appointment. I will keep on getting Stongher and doing what I love, live, learn, pass on.
