Fri, 10 July 15

Nick was in town staying with me for a couple days since he had a wedding on Saturday afternoon on this side of the bridge and we decided that in the interest of getting in solid, unhurried work and avoiding the potential rainfall that was forecast for tomorrow, we would train events on Friday instead of Saturday this week.  Eric came out to join in the fun, which was awesome since he hasn't been out to the Unit in a while.  And to make things even better, Ryan showed up with a friend of his, Bill, to train deads right as we were warming up.  I hadn't alerted Gregg or Ryan to the change in training plans yet as I figured both were at work, but Ryan and Bill shifted their training around and did events with us, which made for a good old time.

Log Clean & Jerk

complex x 85

complex x 135

complex x 185

3x225

1x275

1x305 - Ridiculously easy

1x325 - Messed up the clean on my first try, but came back and kicked it in the nuts on the second go round.  The log was physically super hot by this point from being out in the sun so I stopped here.  Burning the snot out of my hands and getting massive blisters on my palms that immediately rupture and/or bleed is not conducive to a solid day of training.

Yoke

80'x250

80'x340

80'x450

80'x540

80'x630 - This is the best feeling yoke run I've done in months and only 1.5" slower than 540.

80'x730 - In contrast, this felt hellish and was almost 7" slower than 630.  I blame a lack of focus and lack of tightness on my pick.

Stone Over Bar (tackyless and tapeless to 49")

5x200

3x240

1x280

2x1x300 - First time doing the 300 tackyless in a long time.  The first one slipped on me a little coming out of my lap, but the second set was easy.

Everyone had a strong day.  Nick didn't do quite what he had wanted to do on stones, but he still had the best performance on them that I have seen him do to date.  Ryan and Eric got in some solid work and Bill did outstanding, especially considering it was his first time trying strongman.  He gets the Deck seal of approval to come back and train with us anytime, which I sincerely hope that he will do.
