Block 11, Wave 1 - Events @ Iron Strong CF
Today was a solid start to a new training block as well as being a first for me - I have never pulled a semi truck before. We started out pulling it on a slight downhill grade which proved entirely too easy so after everyone had a go at it that way we flipped things around and pulled it uphill, which was much more satisfying. Huge thanks to Dave for getting us access to the truck and also a hearty handshake for pulling it both downhill and uphill.
Weight Over Bar (sans bar)
3x1ea x 28
5x1ea x 56
The last 2 throws were really strong and technically very smooth. I didn't bring the standards with me to setup because I already had to haul a bunch of other equipment and only Ryan was training this with me today. I am getting to where I can actually tell how high my throws are going though, even without the bar, which is a first for me.
Truck Pull (19,000 lb semi)
50' x truck - Downhill, too easy.
50' x truck - Uphill, much better.
This was a lot of fun and almost everyone at the gym came out to try it including strongmen and women, powerlifters, weightlifters, and crossfitters. Everyone was able to get it going downhill, but uphill was significantly more difficult.
Odd Object Clean & Press Medley
warmups were a rep or two with each implement
2x{1x100 sandbag, 3x135 atlas stone, 1x185 keg, 1x175 atlas stone}
2x175 atlas stone
I definitely smashed myself in the chin a couple of times with the 135 atlas stone. My high school wrestling coach would have given a nod of approval at handling the chin music without missing a beat.
Sandbag Carry
200' x 250
I did this for the simple reason that it was siting right there and I hadn't carried 250 in a long time.
Carry & Drag
80' x 185 keg/80' x prowler + 325
80' x 185 keg/80' x prowler + 415
Ryan and I did this to test out weights for the Salisbury Summer Strongman Slam, the competition I am promoting at the end of May. I am pretty sure I have the weights set for the Men's classes now, but I still need to test out the Women's weights a little more before finalizing them.
Prowler Hi/Lo
8x{50' x prowler + 140 high handles/50' x prowler + 140 low handles} - 2 man rotation of lung and leg death and the 8th run was due entirely to Ryan doing it with me.
