I recently lifted in the 2019 APF Raw Challenge in Chicago. I ended up with an 1802 total via a 705 squat, 463 bench and 633 deadlift.

I was traveling for work earlier this week, spent Monday and Tuesday in the San Jose, California area. The meetings went extremely well so on Tuesday when we finished up early I managed to get a session in.

1. 1 board close grip- 325 x 3 x 5. Continuously building mid and upper range strength here.

2. Incline dumbbell press - 75 x 4 x 8

3. Swiss bar tricep extension - 115 x 4 x 12

4. Rope Pressdown - 100 reps

5. Hammer curls - 80 reps

When I travel I usually go prepared to train if I have the time but don’t worry about it if I can’t get one in. This time it worked out nicely for me to train.

I have some new ideas I want to try on my bench training. A big problem for me has been bringing the bar down too slow with heavier weights. In the past, dynamic effort work with a focus on bringing the bar down helped a lot. My new idea is to try weight releasers. It’s easy to bring 225 down really fast. I’d love to get more work bringing down heavy weight but can’t really afford the wear and tear of constant heavy pressing. My theory is that weight releasers would be the best of both worlds.
