Another WPC World Championship under my belt. This year’s World’s were held in Baton Rouge Louisiana where the gators are big and the craw fish are plenty. I set my goals high for the World’s not knowing what to expect exactly one year post shoulder surgery.

My Journey to the Worlds, how did I get here, click to read.

Monday Nov 7th I competed in full Power Raw Classic division, masters 50-54, 82.5 kg weight category. This will be the last meet for this category as come Jan I turn 55 years young.

My main goal going into this meet was to obtain my 1,000 lb raw total. I did not cut weight this time I wanted to go in as strong as I could especially recovering from an injury such as a completely torn Rotator cuff.  My best total ever was 995 Lbs in June 2015.  After surgery my Dr was sceptical that I would be able to return to the platform with the same abilities and strength as I had prior to my rotator cuff tear. I had a great recovery and a great training cycle leading up to World's.

I had a few different ideas on how to obtain my total but it all came down to how much I could  increase my squat.
I felt great during warm-ups despite the long travel day before hand with 2 different time changes. I was having no excuse in my corner.
Squats 3 for 3 all white lights and all world records. 346 / 365 / 380. That is a 25 lb meet PR on squats  and I'm ahead of the game.
Squat Opener 346 Lbs 3 white lights and World Record

Squat 2nd attempt 365 Lbs 10 Lb Meet P.R. 3 White lights World Record

Squat 3rd Attempt 380 Lbs 25 Lb Meet P.R. 3 White lights World Record

Now for Bench, I really wanted to hit my 200 Lb mark again. This would have been epic 1 year post surgery. I hit 195 in training so I was confident I could hit 200.
Bench Opener 176.5 Lbs 3 White lights and World Record

Bench 2nd Attempt 187.5 Lbs 3 White lights World Record

Bench 3rd Attempt, 200 Lbs, No lift, I got handcuffed, I touched too low and could not move the bar. No problem, I'm still in the game for my total but I need a monster pull and a big P.R. pull post surgery.

Deadlifts 2 for 3, a big opener of 403 lbs and now all I needed was 433 to hit my 1000 lb total. 435 Lbs  on the bar for my second attempt and it flew up. Goal met and that was only 5 lbs shy of my best ever deadlift of 440 Lbs. The most I had pulled post shoulder surgery was 400 lbs in training to get my opener in. I was happy, mission accomplished.

Deadlift Opener 403 Lbs 3 White lights and World Record

Deadlift Second attempt 435 Lbs 3 White lights World Record

Deadlift 3rd attempt, 445 Lbs on the bar which would have been an all time P.R. but I was gassed. I got it just below the knees and I was done. I wonder if mentally it was because I already reached my goal or seriously because it was friggin heavy. Either way, this meet could not have gone any better for me.

4 world records,  1st place gold medal and best lifter award. I could not be happier 1 year post shoulder surgery. It was also an honour and privilege to lift with my Team Member Brandon Smitley, he busted out another all time World Record, took gold and best lifter. I could not be more proud to represent Team Elitefts with Brandon beside me.

But wait, I'm not done yet. I decided what the heck I'm here all week let's give the deadlift only OPEN category a ride seeing how the deadlift is my best lift.
Saturday came and I felt a little light headed, not sure why but when I pulled I got a bit dizzy. No problem, I fuelled up and did some J.L. PRP and I was ready to pull. Saturday I was more nervous to pull than for all my lifts on Monday.
I opened bigger than Monday with a 407 Lb opener
Nice and easy and 3 white lights.
I really had no expectations for this day other than I would have liked a P.R. deadlift and wanted to see how I placed in an open category at the age of 54.
2nd Attempt Deadlift of 430 Lbs, 1 White Light, 2 Red Lights. Well, I was shocked but ok, I wanted to try 430 again but my coach aka hubby said no, you pulled that easy go for 440. I was angry at myself for missing the lift although I thought it was good.

3rd Attempt Deadlift 440 Lbs

Up it came again, awesome I thought for sure I had it this time. Again, 1 White Light, 2 Red Lights. I was really disappointed. Time to clean up my deadlift act, apparently they called me for hitching or ramping, not really sure.

Regardless, I still had the biggest pull, I am 54 years young and I took the Gold medal home for the Deadlift Only Open Category.

A big thank you to my coach, hubby and biggest supporter and handler. The knee wraps were so tight my legs are still bruised. Ken, thank you for all you do for me and believing in me even when I don't believe in myself.

Thank you to so many people and I can't mention why for every person but to Dr. Ken Kinakin, Sue Cornwell, Shantel Johnson, Jaynie White, Grove Turtle, Bethany Zotti, Victoria Denny-Lailey, Kelly Russell-Amey, Carri Chillingworth, The Outlaw Crew for help training, Matt, Dan, Clint, Barry, Pietro, Paul and all my online supporters, co-workers, friends, family and Team Elitefts.

Being on the platform knowing you have all the love and support whether near or far means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who reached out, I could not have done it without you all.

So, what's next?

Well, how lucky am I, upon arrival home I was able to secure a spot in the Laura Phelps Women's Pro-Am meet in Cincinnati at the end of April. To lift among over 100 female lifters, some the best in the world will be an honour and privilege.

I would also love to lift at the Arnold's again at the beginning of March. Right now my CNS is cooked and I need a bit of a break.

So cheer's to a great year coming back from shoulder surgery, a P.R. meet and another World Championship in the books.
