The Special Olympics are judged by the same rules as the USAPL and, even though the same squat depth rule applies to all federations (the crease of the hip being below the top of the knee), the USAPL tends to be stricter and there’s no exception with the Special Olympics. What I’ve been doing now is to have CJ follow the squat command on each squat as well as giving him an up call when I believe he’s reached depth. The issues are that; it’s hard to judge depth while spotting and CJ often either stops when he believes he’s at depth or slows down and tries to predict it (as many of us do). Here’s him squatting 185 for 5 without knee wraps (since he has an easier time hitting depth without them). The videos in the following weeks will be with knee wraps as well as with a depth call.
