Last week Ken and I had the amazing opportunity to “Live, Learn, Pass On” our Kettlebell knowledge and passion. We were invited to host a Kettlebell workshop at this amazing facility called “One Health Clubs” in Mississauga Ontario. This workshop was a bit different than the ones we normally teach. This time we were invited to “Train the Trainers”. We taught 25 personal trainers how to utilize Kettlebells with their clients and how to implement them into their current training programs.
This facility was beyond amazing. It was hands down the biggest fitness facility we have ever entered. One Health Clubs Mississauga location is over 78,000 square feet including and indoor swimming pool. 2 Indoor tennis courts, 3 squash courts, a café, a hair/beauty salon, Chiropractic service, Kids club, hot/cold yoga, an elite performance centre and the list goes on. The High performance training centre is where we spent the afternoon teaching.
We were invited by Jamie Don one of the owners of “One Health Clubs” to come out and teach their trainers. We loaded up our car with 24 of our special sport/pro kettlebells and put our minds to what types of things would best suit these trainers. This is what we came up with for Metabolic conditioning, rehab/active recovery, warmup and finishers to current programs and some fun little circuits for strength protocols.
SWINGS
ONE HANDED SWINGS
ALTERNATING SWINGS
SWING LEG IN/LEG OUT COMBO (This swing really works the forearms and obliques)
SWING SQUATS (Best metabolic conditioning for your buck)
DROP SQUATS (Great for working calves and explosiveness and put together with swing squats as a finisher will take your heart rate to the next level.
SWING CATCH SQUAT (Great full body warm up)
HIGHPULL (Great for shoulder mobility/rehab/upper back & trap training & grip strength)
FIGURE 8 HOLDS WITH SQUAT (Unique moves that require some co-ordination that work full body are great for warm ups and finishers)
CLEANS (Hard to master this move but so important in order to ensure overhead presses and jerks are performed properly and safely)
PRESS (Strict press focusing on proper technique and lockout)
CLEAN & PRESS/PUSH PRESS/ JERK
BOTTOMS UP CLEAN
BOTTOMS UP PRESS (Hard but great for grip and forearm strength)
RENEGADE ROWS WITH PUSHUPS (A perfect push/pull strength protocol
PUSHUPS ON BELLS/PULL THROUGH/TRICEP DIPS/SUITCASE DEADLIFTS
COMPOUNDS (A fun full body circuit with endless amounts of variations)
5 swings/ 5 highpulls/ 5 cleans/ 5 presses/ 5 squats
CHAINS (One move after the other repeated into a series of movements for a full body pump)
Swing/highpull/clean/press/squat then repeat x 3 or 4 rounds, switch arms and repeat
We demonstrated what they could do with double Kettlebells and how effective the training is. Save time by training doubles and it makes both sides equally as strong.
We only had two hours with these trainers so we had to really push though and focus on what they would best take away from those two hours.
Here is my blog on Kettlebell Education, all video's and logs rolled into one, your welcome!
All in all I think everyone had a great time, learned a ton and will definitely utilize these tools more in their ever expanding variety of teaching tools.
This gym was so big they even had a “Big Ass Fan”
I was also pleasantly surprised to see and Elitefts competition bench in this high performance athletic centre and a reverse hyper. Now you don't see that in your average gym, but then again, this isn't your average gym.
This really was a great group of trainers and since the workshop I have seen several of them utilizing the bells already. Not only for their own workouts but on their clients as well. This was a great day living, learning and passing on. The good news is we were invited back in a few months to do it again. We will teach a refresher and add some more advanced moves.
A huge thank you to Jamie & Evan for organizing and inviting us to their amazing facility and to all the trainers who came out and made this day enjoyable for Ken and myself. We are passionate about Kettlebells and will continue to always share our passion because "Passion Trumps Everything"!
