I can't believe it has come to this, however, as the saying goes "Adapt or die!" I took a day off and lived to tell about it.

Navigating training as you are getting older is tricky AF. Especially when you have taken a lot of tread off the tires. I wonder what percentage of people have been at consistent heavy weight training for 40 years? But I digress.

Through a lot of trial and error I have learned that I only have two hard training days in me a week. With that in mind I do my bench and belt squat sessions on Mondays and deadlift and bench on Fridays. Wednesday is a gap day when I do my assistance work.

The whole point of this was for me to ensure two really intense training days a week. It's how I love to train. I hate holding back. I have been dialing in the Wednesday assistance by feel.

I had caught a second cold of the season which really pissed me off. I hate when my body betrays me. Normally I still train when I'm sick. Even if it's just a little something. Then I thought "Is taking a day off really going to kill me?"

Struggling with the concept, I decided to take the day considering it was the Wednesday Gap Day anyway. It actually felt good. Maybe I'm getting older and softer. Or, maybe I have accumulated so much training over my lifetime that missing one day is not a big deal. Dare I say, it might even be smart.

Will I take every day I'm sick off going forward, probably not, but I'll be more open to the option.
