I have to laugh a bit when I hear of another person getting close to becoming a "Beast". Everyone comes out of the woodwork and wants to join in the fun when they hear about it. Some go so far as to claim it as their own. Years ago, I was chatting with a couple pals and we were discussing the dichotomy of my personal training has taken over the years. I played Football and Lacrosse way back when, so I trained for them by doing weights and sprints and some longer slow distance for the heck of it. I then got involved in doing Triathlons. So much so, I did the World Championships in Nice France and the Ironman (TWICE) before it became popular. After getting pushed around in a bar on the way back from Kona, I decided Powerlifting was my call back to the iron. Long story short, in the Bible the TRUE mark of the Beast is "666". It was under this pretense that I figured a TRUE test of metal would be to Squat 600 pounds, then Dead lift 600 lbs and after that run a mile in 6:00 minutes or faster. I don't recall how many have done it over the years, but I know the ones that have given me the respect and graciousness of keeping me in their loop is less than a dozen. The reward I have for the person that accomplishes this has always been upon our meeting (and I have met some) I would buy them A BEER! Big Deal! Well for those that I have compensated it became a big deal in a lot of ways that you won't understand unless you did it. Don't get me wrong. I love the fact that people have taken it upon themselves to customize it so they could become members. Adjusted it for their sex, their weight, their whatever. They can call it whatever they like...but to me...unless you have kept ME in the loop and actually squatted 600 dead lifted 600 and RAN a 6:00 minute mile, you are NOT official! You can say anything you want...but you are not THE BEAST! Posers will come and they will go. The popularity of being STRONG AND in SHAPE (hmmm is that strength and conditioning???) will ebb and flow as well. But no matter what, you AREN'T a true "666" Beast unless you have kept ME in the loop. Why??? Because I came up with the fucking idea...that's why!
