I love the Deadlift even though I can’t do it anymore! Today I’ve got a great exercise that can be used as a Max Effort variation or as an Assistance exercise. And let me say that I was mocked mercilessly for using this years ago, it’s stupid, it’s dangerous, it doesn’t work. I’ve heard it all. I just don’t care. Times have changed and people see that it does work.

I’m talking about Deadlifts with

Bands in the Front.

This is an outstanding variation to build your Deadlift, and more specifically, the lockout.

Adding bands in front forces you to keep the bar close to the body. We all know that when the bar glides away from the body you are less likely to lock it out, right?     Adding bands in front forces you to keep your back locked in, it improves upper back and lat strength in a new way, and the bands also challenge your grip the more they stretch.     The most common thing I see done wrong on this is people using too much band.     For most, a mini band or two is enough. A light band is great for strong(er) lifters too.     Using too much band tension will negatively affect your ability to root your feet, specifically your heel. And we all know when the heel comes up you fall forward right?     Give these a shot for your next Max Effort day, or as your second exercise for sets for 3-5 reps.     Thank me later.
