CJ competed in the Area Games at D1 Orlando (which was an impressive Physical Therapy and Sport’s Training Facility) this past Sunday in order to qualify for the Florida State Games at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in November. Here are his best lifts of a 255 lb squat, a 185 lb Bench, and a 315 Deadlift at a bodyweight of 141.

CJ's training is going well as he continues to transition from equipped to raw in the squat and deadlift. Thank you to D1 Orlando, the spotters and loaders, and the judges. Most of all, thank you to CJ’s Mom, Sande, for giving me the opportunity to coach CJ for all of these years and to meet so many amazing people. During the meet one of the other lifters from Orange County, Jonathan David (who's standing to the left of CJ while looking at the group pic), who has Down Syndrome and is completely non-verbal came up to me and was conversing in his own way. I kept thinking that he seemed really familiar. We talked back and forth and eventually it dawned on me, Jonathan was one of the athletes I helped at the 2010 Special Olympics National Games in Nebraska! I had to wake him up every morning at 6 am to go to his swim meets (he did not want to wake up). He remembered me before I remembered him! It was pretty cool. It was good seeing you Jonathan! Congratulations to all of the athletes and coaches! Onto the State Games!
