Sunday was a deadlift day at Apollon.

Most of the guys were working up on a deficit pull on a 3 inch mat with 3 chains. I've been avoiding conventional deadlifts completely for the last few months while I've been trying to let my back heal. So rather than stand on the mats, I just did a conventional pull off the floor. I did keep the 3 chains on the bar though because the accomodatng resistance would make it a little easier to get the bar off the floor.

Not gonna lie, I was a little freaked out about this. My lower back is still nowhere near 100%, but it's been improving a lot in the last few weeks since I've been seeing a new chiropractor, and I felt like it was time to put it to the test (conservatively). No suit this time, just a belt.

Started with 135 for a few sets and reps then added the chain and worked up like so:

135 x

185 x 1

225 x 1

275 x 1

315 x 1

365 x 1

Hate to admit it, but 365 + 3 chains was really f*cking hard, and I even missed it once before going back and getting it. I know the first miss was more psychological than anything else, but it still felt really heavy. On the bright side though, I got through the whole session without my back bothering me, I was pretty stiff and sore the next day, but this is to be expected.

So all in all, it was a step n the right direction, albeit a modest one. Plus, it's not like I was pulling 700 raw before I got hurt or anything. Considering the time off, I felt pretty good about it. Judging by how the warm-up sets felt, I actually thought I would have gotten higher.

Finished with 4 sets of 10 reverse-hypers

Pulldown abs 4 x 15

dumbbell side bends 4 x 15
