Prepping for the APF-AAPF Orlando Barbell Florida State Meet - February 28, 2015. Qualified National Strongman competitor and will be competing this coming October, 2015. I am here to live, learn, and pass on.

So for these past 2 weeks I've been focusing on food intake, mobility work, and openers for the meet. At this point in your training cycle, and this close to a meet, you are either ready or your not.

Even though this training cycle has had it's ups and downs, just like any other, what's different about the rest is I'm not overthinking it like I usually do. I have always said that the mental aspect of training hinders my potential, but this training cycle my thoughts are "listen, you've worked so hard to get here, just kill it." There's not much else to it...

Last weeks training, I hit:

  • My squat opener with 255 lbs for 3 singles
Light band work -

abductions 4 x 25

Bodyweight lunges 3 x 10 each leg

Bodyweight squats 3 x 20

  • My bench opener with 165 lbs for 2 singles
Light band work -

Band pull aparts for 4 x 25

Face pulls for 3 x 20

  • My deadlift opener 295 lbs for 3 singles
Hyper for 4 x 20

Abductions 4 x 25

2 weeks out from the meet, I just hit what I need to hit; light band work and accessories; and then call it a day. Rest, water and food intake are priority when you are close to a meet. This is just what has always worked for me.

Estimated openers for the meet:

255 lb squats (without knee wraps)

165 lb bench

295 lbs deadlift

Thank you for being a part of my journey. Suggestions and comments are always welcomed!
