My first squat session of the new year was on Sunday, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I've been dieting all month to get down to the 198 class, compounded by some stomach problems that landed me in the ER on Tuesday. I was fine, just some severe reflux, but it still resulted in my eating almost nothing for about 4 days. All told I was down about 20lbs from less than a month ago.

But for some reason, I had decided to raw squat and nothing was going to distract me from that. Despite my gear whore status, I actually like raw squatting, and although I kind of suck at it, I do throw in in now and again for fun.

Warmed up on the back extension and worked up like this:

bar x a bunch

150 x 5

200 x 5

260 x 1

310 x 1

350 x 1

400 x 1

450 x 1

500 x 1

550 x 1

So shockingly, I had a pretty good day. the 500 was a pr without wraps, and the 550 was a 15b pr with them.

By the end, I was really starting to feel the effects of being sick, because I was super tired and depleted. I did some more sets on the back extension and some cable pulldown abs for assistance, and I was done.

All things considered, This really started the new year off right.
