If you followed along last year, you'll remember when I was preparing for the Arnold in 2018. About 5-6 weeks out, I got immense quad pain pulling sumo. Once I reached 225, the pain was so deep, I really couldn't go heavier. I ended up just pulling conventional at the meet. Well, all has been going well this time around. I got a little quad pain after a week of deload pulls, but it quickly went away. The following week, we pulled 2nd attempts while we were traveling down in Memphis. When I pulled 315, I felt a weird "hitch" off the floor. Not like a hitch like riding up my legs, but a "shake" or a weird shift. I thought maybe I just wasn't tight enough. Well, here we are 2 weeks later and it happened again, ever so slightly on 315. And then when it came time to pull 340 again, that hitch happened again!! Best way I can describe it is like this: I got tight... lats, back, abs, good tension on the way down. Pulled some slack out of the bar and as I started to pull, it felt like nothing was firing. I kept going, at this point, I assume my posterior chain kicked in a little, but my quads were super late to the party... perhaps? After a minute or so, the deep quad pain set in. Only about a 4 on a scale of 1-10, but it was noticable for sure. Did some accessories to get some blood flow to the quads and things were feeling fine. If anyone has anything similar, or is a PT that might have some insight, please chime in. I'm curious what's going on!
