We played a scrimmage hockey game this weekend and should have blown the team up. Unfortunately, we played to the minimum dose required to get a sister kiss. Yep, we tied. When I coach and when I Dad, there are two standards that I live by. Coaching requires feedback, even if it isn't all positive. We didn't play poorly, we just played..."meh". No one stood out. No one picked up the slack. No one was a PLAYMAKER. I gave my own son a game rating of 5 out of a possible 10. He did..."alright". I told him and I noticed he was visibly "Bummed". So his remedy??? Pull the all nighter. Do everything I've talked about the very next day, all day without rest. Take 100 wristers on goal Take 100 clappers on goal Pin Point your pass Handle the puck Work the edges of your skate Get into the gym and do the main lifts Run Bike Skate, skate, skate. Well, to do it all in one day does nothing. Over a period of time a continuation of the little things adds up to the BIG improvements that will then and only then make the player SIGNIFICANT. To make a difference in a game such as hockey, the player MUST practice the small significant stuff a little at a time. Today we have practice, but the my boy disciplined himself to begin the journey. He was in for deadlifts and GHR's THATS ALL HE HAS TO DO. Dry land practice later followed by Ice time will be a nice round day. By the way, the DAD??? I responded to all the boys that ask "how do you think we did"??? "Yup, all of you are ready for the NHL Hall of Fame. Let's go get some burgers and ice cream".!!! Today's Training: Cycle Commute: 20 mins. Dead Lift (3 hole pin pull): 4 rep max Reverse Hyper: 4x10 Concept II Row: 22 mins Cycle Commute: 20 mins.
