Almost every time that I read someone talking about Functional Training my eyeballs will roll into the back of my head. They are normally doing some type of tire flip or medicine ball carry and load and immediately I run through my mental roladex and start to think... How many times have I been out driving down the street, minding my own business, when WHAM! A 1,000 lb tire just falls in front of my car and the only way to get past it is to jump out and flip it for 75 feet in under 75 seconds? None... Besides, I wouldn't have my gym shoes on or my soft belt and I'm not going to risk a bicep injury on an "Off Day". What sane person would? The things that I do come into contact with on a daily basis is mostly carrying things from here to there. Picking up sleeping children from the car or off of the couch and carrying them plus about 30 lbs of bags in the other hands, then trying to either unlock the house door or open their bedroom door and get them in their bed without causing harm! So...here you go. I highly suggest wearing elbow sleeves to help protect from a torn bicep, the grip shirt helps A TON (you will need a 2nd one to wear around the house when you are transporting your children), and a soft belt. You can use a single prong P2 Belt or a SpudInc Strongman Belt but you also risk taking the skin right off their leg when (I mean if) they start to slide and you attempt to not let them hit the ground (hard enough that your wife will hear it and ask questions).
