You have to be able to lead yourself before you can lead others.
Not everyone will become accountable for the actions of others, but many of us became training partners, friends, employees, managers, parents, and other roles that require leadership skills. The most important leadership lesson is the ability to lead oneself. If all we see is negativity and doubt, then that’s the role others will see in us. We will attract the same and drive away others. If you’re not able to pull yourself out of your own funk, you won’t be able to be trusted to help others to do the same or much else for that matter. If you always have excuses and reasons why you're in the position you're in, well you will keep finding excuses. I’ve known too many people who were unhappy with their lives and literally changed everything: moved to new cities, got divorced, changed professions, found new people to hang and train with, and months later, we're just as unhappy as they were before. Many moved again and ended up in the same place. The ONLY constant was them, but they were too stubborn or ignorant to see it. We need to keep this in mind when we find ourselves making excuses, complaining, seeking negativity, and getting sucked down the critic's rabbit hole. During those times: are we leading ourselves or are we letting our circumstances do so? You have to learn to lead yourself before you can lead others.
