The fat bar 2 board press is a great variation to the regular 2 board press. The fat bar is greatly used by Marc Bartley and Donnie Thompson and they swear by it. Why? Because there is less stress on the shoudlers and elbows when using a fat bar plus once you switch to a regular Power Bar, it will feel like nothing! Also, it is a great way to increase your grip strength, which is often overlooked in increasing your bench press max.

The only problem is that you still need to do regular bar work as the fat bar may change your groove a bit. This is not always a problem, but I'm just bringing it to your attention.

I have found that when doing fat bar work it is difficult to perform with a wide grip. So a close to medium grip is most often used.

This is usually done for max effort work working up to a 1-3RM. I have seen this done as supplemental work (done as a second exercise) for 3-5 sets of 3-10 reps.
