He's helped us with leg drive for the bench press and pelvic tilt for deadlift lockout, and now JL Holdsworth is back with another Friday Technique Video installment. In this issue, Holdsworth demonstrates the power clean and explains how strength and conditioning coaches can properly teach and implement this lift into the programming of their athletes.

Walk into any high school football weight training session and you'll see power cleans. Or something bearing only slight resemblance to power cleans. The problem, Holdsworth points out, is that the improper execution of this lift results in injuries and no triple extension. To reap the benefits, they need to be done correctly, or not done at all.

Holdsworth covers:

1. Triple extension in athletes

2. The power position

3. Loading the glutes and hamstrings without bending the knees

4. Jump and catch portions of the lift

5. Substitutions for the power clean
