I’m currently in meet prep for the 2016 APF Equipped Nationals, in Orlando, Florida on May 28th, 2016. I will be competing at 132 pounds, raw with knee wraps. The big picture is to prep for this meet, and obtain a top three placing to qualify for WPC Worlds in November.
For programming and coaching inquires, please email SmitleyPerformanceSystems@gmail.com or visit brandonsmitley.comSaturday was my heaviest squat session of the meet prep. My weekend was much more hectic than normal. I had a banquet for work on Friday night (sucks they had a bar and I couldn't enjoy it!), and then I attended the NSCA Indiana State Clinic all day Saturday. This ate into our typical training time, and it even ran over by an hour, so things were pushed back pretty late. One of my training partners was also out of town for work, so I was scrapping to pick up some help. All in all, things ended up working out okay, and I did just fine. I was very pleased with my performance and managed to get up to 515 against the monster mini bands. The weight moved great, and I felt really confident in the weights that I moved. I probably could have pushed it a bit more, but I just decided to call it there and save the rest for meet day. I also box squatted (with a straight bar) for the first time in forever. I used this as my supplemental work as I noticed I needed to sit back more and get accustomed to driving up hard from the bottom. My 445 moved much better than I thought, but again, I just decided to call it there rather than make a jump to 455-470. Due to the intensity and duration of this day, I just hit some light accessory work, and then took my training partners out for some dinner for all their help.
I really can't thank the guys that I have around me enough. With the lack of powerlifting in my area (or the lack of people that actually TRAIN in general), I've felt that I've done a great job in selecting those around me and helping teach and mentor them. I taught Trey how to wrap my knees the week prior, and he was awesome and did everything great.
Now with the heaviest squat out of the way, I've got my heaviest deadlift on Tuesday, and then my heaviest bench press the following Sunday, and then we begin to wind down and pull back on everything. Meet day is going to be approaching pretty quick.
