I called the Home Depot this morning and it turns out they offer same day hot water tank replacement if you call before noon. SO that is what I did and my buddy was able to have his time back and I didn't have to do anything, or so I thought. After I knew they were coming I went down to drain the tank. I usually flush out the tank once or twice a year and I run the hose to my sump pump. Well today I found out the sump pump had also decided to quit working. Lucky for me it is winter and the basement didn't get wet but it needs replaced SO...off to Home Depot I go. I am competent enough to replace a sump pump because its a couple of clamps, a threaded pipe and a plug. It only took me about 90 minutes including travel time to do.

The guys showed up on time to replace the water heater and they were efficient and did a nice job.

So a new hot water tank and a new sump pump...$1500. I guess it was needed but I was not planning on spending that money for those things. BUT honestly the hot shower after yesterdays cold one was worth it.
