Today we are going to talk about slowing down. No, literally, going SLOW on the way DOWN. Eccentrics, or negatives, have been around for some time, used in a ton of various ways. Some of the ways I use them are for hypertrophy, learning to keep tension on a muscle, and for strength-building purposes when someone is unable to perform a movement. Sure many of these reasons are all inter-connected, but the main reason why I choose them is usually one of the above. I have a lot of young athletes and new women in lifting that have a hard time performing some body weight exercises properly. Some of the most common exercises that I like to utilize these techniques are: 1. Pushup 2. Pullup 3. Glute ham raise 4. Step-up 5.
